Loren Richards

Loren Frank Richards passed away on Sunday March 24th, 2024, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls entering eternal rest.

Loren was born on May 22, 1942 in Norcross, MN to James and Marvel Richards where he lived until he graduated from high school. He was drafted in the Army in 1964 & was always very proud of his years of service.

On May 20th,1967 Loren married the love of his life, Karen Mohagen at West Elbow Lake Church. For a brief period, they resided in Fergus Falls, before they established their home on the shores of Wall Lake where they welcomed their children, Penny and Robbie. Karen passed away in 2000 and Loren remained at their lakeside residence until declining health required him to relocate back to town in 2023.

When Loren returned from Vietnam he drove truck for a local steel yard, followed by delivering fuel oil for Midland Oil. Loren then went to work in the appliance department for Woolworth. When Woolworth closed, he worked as a custodian for Fergus Falls Schools until he retired.

Loren was known for always having a smile. He enjoyed moments shared with loved ones, particularly his four grandchildren. Loren & family were blessed with his dear friend, Gladys Trosvig in which she offered unconditional love and was a part of memories that will last a lifetime. She was his best friend and companion after Grandma Karen passed. She was there in all the good times and there taking care of him in the hard times. She welcomed Loren into her family and she is a part of ours.

Loren loved traveling; his favorite was Branson where he visited often. His love for the outdoors, fishing & camping trips and deer hunting every fall were always a highlight for Loren. Watching the MN Twins, MN Vikings, and his grandchildren's sporting events brought him great joy. He loved going for morning coffee & getting together with friends and family to play cards. He found joy in and was proud of his expert woodworking skills.

Loren is survived by his daughter Penny Steinhouse (Gregg Schmidt) of Breckenridge, her son Zachary, and son Robbie (Terri) Richards of Glenwood and their children Colin (Abby), Ella, and Olivia, along with his special friend Gladys Trosvig of Fergus Falls, brother Neil Richards of Elbow Lake, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Karen, parents, brother Gary Richards and sister Ione Johanson.

Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Olson Funeral and Cremation Chapel in Fergus Falls, with prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
