Lois Knutson

Lois Mae Knutson, 80, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, September 16, 2012, at her residence. She was born March 5, 1932, in Fisher, Minnesota, the only child of Erwin and Erma (Ross) Bauer, and was baptized in the Christian faith. She graduated from Fisher High School in 1950 as the valedictorian of her class. She attended Dakota Business College of Fargo, and then worked at Mutual Service Insurance Companies of Moorhead. While working in Moorhead she met Wesley Knutson and they were married on October 29, 1955. Together they moved to Billings, Montana for a short period before returning to Fergus Falls to raise their children. In the late 1970’s she opened a women’s specialty shop “Something Special”. She then went on to manage the Lakeland Motel in Fergus Falls. In 1996 she purchased the Jewel Motel where she remained until her death. In her early years she was a Cub Scout leader and enjoyed being a hockey mom. She was a lifelong member of Faith Lutheran Church where she played the organ for many years. She would take the summers off from playing the organ to spend time with the family at their cabin on Stalker Lake. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Preceding her in death were her parents, and two grandsons, MacKenzie Knutson and Alexander Knutson. Survivors include her three children: Randy (Brenda) Knutson and Todd Knutson, all of Fergus Falls, and Mary Jo Knutson (Larry Mozey) of Wendell; grandchildren: Rebekka (Derrick) Buchholz, and Sammy (Natalie) Knutson all of Fergus Falls, and Baily Knutson of Climax; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friends, Gordon and Mary Johnson and Dean Johnson. Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Friday, September 21, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls Clergy: Reverend Craig Palach Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
