Lloyd Weum

Lloyd Joseph Weum, 80, a resident of Battle Lake, died Saturday, April 5, 2008 at Lake Region Hospital. Lloyd was born on April 15, 1927, the son of Randolph and Catherine (Wambach) Weum and grew up in Georgetown, MN. He joined the US Navy and served in World War II. He attended Wahpeton State School of Science. On January 10, 1953, he married Clarice Darlene Hertz in Fargo. Lloyd worked for American Crystal Sugar Co. in Moorhead for 30+ years. During his career, he and his family lived in Grand Forks, Moorhead and Fargo. He retired in 1987. Lloyd enjoyed working in his yard, bird-watching, the world of finance, and travel. He loved summers on West Battle Lake and the Battle Lake flea market and winters in St. George, Utah with weekly drives to Zion National Park. He was a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls for one year prior to his death. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff and volunteers at the Veteran's Home for the care Lloyd received while a resident there. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Randolph "Bud" and sister, Maxine Rogers. Survivors include his wife, Clarice; two daughters, Taryn Weum of Minnetonka and Kimberly Weum of Perham; three grandchildren, Shannon, Matthew and Brady and one sister, Irene Anderson of Sun City, AZ. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Olson Funeral Home with Father Robert Kieffer officiating. Burial will take place at Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery in Battle Lake. Olson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF TIME AND DATE, DUE TO WEATHER.
