Lillian C. Haarstad

July 19, 1923 — December 31, 2014

Lillian C. Haarstad, 91, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at the Broen Memorial Home.

Lillian was the youngest of three children,was born to Julius and Christine (Peterson) Christopherson, on July 19, 1923. She attended country school through eighth grade then graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1942, after missing a year due to polio. Lillian then moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota for work for three years before returning to Fergus Falls where she worked at the Dime Store.

In 1946 Lillian married Harold Haarstad. They farmed in Aastad Township until moving to Fergus Falls in 1970.Lillian then worked for FFRTC in accounting until retirement. Harold and Lillian had two children, Janice and Duane.

They were involved in their children’s activities, and were leaders in 4H,taught Sunday school and was Sunday school superintendent. Lillian was a member of Aastad Lutheran Church transferring to Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she was very active in the church and the ladies aid. She was a member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary and the ladies marching team. After retirement Lillian would travel with Harold as he drove charter bus across the United States, acting as hostess.

Lillian was a very giving and caring lady who loved to entertain and was very involved in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren lives. She will be missed and remembered by everyone who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; son, Duane; brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Dorothy Christopherson; sister and brother-in-law, Elsie and Herbert Richter; niece, Ellen Welch, and nephews, Dale Christopherson, Gary Erlandson and Truman Thorsen. Lillian was the last member of the Haarstad/ Christopherson generation.

Survivors include her daughter, Jan (Mark) Palm of Fergus Falls; seven grandchildren, Tammy (Isidro) Molina III, Chad Ness, Rhonda (Steve) Salwasser, Bridget (Doug) Larson, Creed Palm, Ryan (Lindsey) Palm and Jamie (Lori) Roehl; 15 great-grandchildren, Isidro IV, Gabriell, Andrew, Christian, Taylor, LilliAnn, Jakob, Alex, Paige, Anna, Rylin, Ayla, Alexis,Shelby, and Carson. Also surviving are two godsons, Steve Thorsen and Jim Risbrudt, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: One hour prior to service at the Olson Funeral Home.
Service: 2p.m., Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the Olson Funeral Home chapel, Fergus Falls, MN
