LeRoy Hanson

LeRoy "Bud" Hanson, 80, of Fergus Falls, died Monday, December 31, 2007, at the Pioneer Retirement Community. He was born June 13, 1927, in Fergus Falls, the son of John and Ida (Schmidt) Hanson. He grew up and attended school in Fergus Falls. Following graduation, he joined the US Army and was stationed in Europe. Following his military service, he returned to Fergus Falls. On May 26, 1951, he married Beverly Schummer in Wadena. The couple lived in Wadena where he delivered milk. In 1953, they moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he worked for Bycrus-Erie Manufacturing Co. In 1954, they moved to Fergus Falls, where he was in sales and service for "Doc's" Tire Service, Montgomery Wards and K-Mart. In addition, LeRoy also worked for Kimber Awning and Frontier Equipment. He also completed a small engine repair course from Wahpeton State School of Science. Bud enjoyed his grandchildren, working on engines, loved to read and was a life member of the VFW. Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Michael in 1985; grandson, Jacob; a brother, Donald and a sister, Irene Anderson. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carol (Mel) Klein of Clearwater and Pam (Jeff) Hanson of Fergus Falls; three sons, Duane of Erhard, Terry (Colleen) of Fergus Falls and Tom of Fergus Falls; 16 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Elfreda Botts, Olga Teberg, and Violet (Cliff) Scott, all of Fergus Falls, Lucille Schmidt of Hutchinson and Doris (Larry) Kvalheim of Fergus Falls; brothers, Baldwin "Bob" (Evelyn) Hanson of Fergus Falls, Lester (Dorothy) Hanson of California, Marvin (Nancy) Hanson of Fergus Falls, and Gordon (Marjean) Hanson of rural Underwood, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: 5-7 pm Thursday and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home Service: 10:30 am Friday, at Olson Funeral Home Chapel, Fergus Falls, with military participation by Fergus Falls VFW Post 612 Clergy: Chaplain Harry Olson Interment: First United Church of Christ Cemetery, Fergus Falls Funeral Home: Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls
