LeRoy Brenaman

LeRoy “Roy” Brenaman, 78, of Fergus Falls, a kind and loving husband, father, and friend to many, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 24, 2009. He was born December 29, 1930, in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Harold and Marie (Rouse) Brenaman. He attended school in Omaha at Benson High School. On July 19, 1951, LeRoy married Marjorie Buchholz at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Fergus Falls. He joined the Army in 1950, and after one year of duty in the U.S. his outfit was ready for overseas shipment. On October 25, 1951, they boarded buses and headed for their deployment point, which was Norfolk, Virginia. After arriving at Norfolk, they boarded the ship the USS General Hersey and made their way out to sea. Their destination was Bermerhaven, Germany. They were at sea for nine days before arriving at Bermerhaven. Five days later they were stationed in Munich. Sometime in 1951 Marjorie joined him there. After his honorable discharge at the rank of Private First Class Regular Army, they returned to the United States where they made their home in Fergus Falls. There they raised their three children, David, Donald and Barbara.  LeRoy worked at several jobs including Gambles, Western Electric, the railroad, the parts department at GMC Trucks, and numerous other jobs. He also co-owned West Central Speedways for a couple of years. He then drove school bus for Ottertail Coaches until he fully retired. In his retirement Roy’s hobbies included fishing, rummage sales, traveling with his wife, Marjorie and gambling at the casinos, and tinkering with items to return them to working condition. He attended Faith Lutheran Church. Preceding him in death were his wife, Marjorie, his parents, one brother, Gerald, a niece and nephews. Survivors include two sons, David (Janet) Brenaman of Fergus Falls, and Donald Brenaman (Pam Johnson) of Fergus Falls; a daughter, Barbara (Bill) Conner of Phoenix, Arizona; five grandchildren: Christopher Brenaman, Lana Shin, and Kelsey Kaasa, Missy Brandner, and Darren Conner; one brother, Orval (Shirley) Brenaman of Underwood, MN; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation:  5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
