Leonard Norgren

January 12, 1915 — August 28, 2008

Leonard Oscar Norgren, 93, a resident of rural Elizabeth, died Thursday, August 28, 2008, at his home. He was born January 12, 1915, the middle child in a family of nine to C.O. and Mary (Laugen) Norgren. He was born on the family farm home in rural Elizabeth. He was baptized and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church in Elizabeth, MN.  He was drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II on January 7, 1942. He received his training at Fort Leonardwood, MO and Camp Berkely, CA. He served in active duty with the 3rd Army in both Germany and France under General George S. Patton and was honorably discharged on November 27, 1945. On January 19, 1944 he was united in marriage to Violet Trochman at the Augustana Lutheran Church parsonage in Fergus Falls with Reverend C. P. Hall officiating. To this union three sons were born – Donald, Philip and Steven.  Leonard was a lifelong member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Elizabeth, MN. He enjoyed splitting wood, having company, old time music, dancing, farming, horses and tractors. He lived on the home farm most of his 93 ½ years except for the time spent serving his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Violet; three sisters: Ethel Fick, Edna Moe, and Sister Mildren Norgren; three brothers: Clarence, Melvin and Kenneth; five brothers-in-law: Arthur Fick, George Moe, George L. Swenson, and Marvin and Robert Trochman; three sisters-in-law: Patricia and Esther Norgren and Bernice Trochman; a nephew, Tim Norgren; and a great niece, Nancy (Schroeder) Tungseth. Survivors include his three sons: Donald of Fargo, ND, Philip (Phyllis) of Grand Forks, ND, and Steven (Yvonne) of Moorhead, MN; five grandchildren: Christine (Dylan) Norgren-Spicer, Mark, and Sarah Norgren, Michelle (Brent) Rassier, and Tammy (Eric) Lange; six great-grandchildren: Lauren, Ella, Peyton, Addie, Jonas, and Isabel; a sister, Luella Swenson of Fergus Falls; a brother, Stanley Norgren, rural Fergus Falls; and two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Norgren of Elizabeth, and Mildred Trochman of Phoenix, AZ. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and his health nurse and faithful caregiver for the past four years, his niece, Lori Morgan.  Leonard will be sadly missed by his family, friends, and relatives.
