Leona (Harlow) Hames, 92, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, August 10, 2008, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. She was born December 19, 1915, in Stowe, Vermont, the daughter of Harry and Annie (McAllister) Harlow. She attended school in Bertha, Minnesota and graduated from high school there in 1933. In 1935 she enrolled in a nursing school at the Fergus Falls State Hospital. She spent two years there, and 1 1/2 years at Anker Hospital in St. Paul. She returned to Fergus Falls State Hospital and worked there for a couple of years. On January 12, 1939, she married Vernon Hames of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, and they both were employed at the Fergus Falls State Hospital until 1941 when they moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she was employed at Bronson Hospital. In 1947 she and Vernon moved to Dalton, Minnesota where they bought and operated the Dalton Café for 30 years. Preceding her in death were her husband, Vernon; her parents; three sisters, Helene, Beverly and Lillian; and one brother, Harry. Survivors include her brother, Roland (Donna) Harlow of Fergus Falls and a sister, Kathleen Jean (Mrs. Alonzo) Hanson of Dalton, many nieces and nephews and their families, as well as Priscilla Harlow, Beryl Hames and Carl Murawski.
