Leola M. Velo, 95, a resident of Pelican Rapids, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids.
She was born to Lars and Mathilda (Arneklev) Trosvik in Trondhjem Township on February 15, 1919. She was baptized and confirmed at South Immanuel Church, rural Rothsay. Leola attended Country School near Rothsay and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School.
On April 10, 1938 she was united in marriage to Eddie Velo at South Immanuel Lutheran Church. They lived on the family farm in the Rothsay area until moving to Pelican Rapids in 2004. For over 60 years, they developed and operated a large poultry and grain operation. Leola helped with many facets of the operation, especially bookkeeping.
Leola was a lifelong and active member of the South Immanuel Women’s Aid and was also involved as a 4-H leader and a campfire leader.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie; son, Ivan; daughter, JoAnn; brothers, Art, Mel and Orville Trosvik; sisters, Margaret Scheer, Florence Haugrud and Gladys Ouse.
Survivors include her children, David Velo of Rothsay, Diane (Lyle) Hovland of Rothsay, Louann (David) Wallin of Bozeman, MT, Dale (Mary) Velo of Fergus Falls, Daryl Velo of Underwood, Cindy (Jack) Westby of Fargo, ND, SuzAnn (Cal) Stenso-Velo of Hudson; grandchildren, Danton and Torin Wallin, Krysta (Michael) Mischel, Kurt (Haili) Hovland, Jamie and Megan Velo, Max, Kelsey and Alanna Velo, Christopher, Marc and Michelle Westby, Avery and Solvei Stenso-Velo; great-grandchildren, Tennyson and Berkeley Mischel and Haven Hovland; sister, Rose Hanson of Wolverton; brothers, Sylvester (Joyce) Trosvik of Rothsay, Earl (Jane) Trosvik of Pelican Rapids.
Visitation: Friday 5-7 p.m. with prayers beginning at 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home, and resumes one hour prior to service at the church.
Service: 1 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014 at South Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Rothsay.
