Leland Henry Kopperude

Leland Henry Kopperude, 85, died Friday, August 2, 2013, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

He was born March 17, 1928, in Santiago Township near Becker, Minnesota, the son of Henry and Asenth (Cox) Kopperude. He grew up in Becker and attended Patrick Henry School in Minneapolis.

At the age of 17, Lee joined the US Army, serving from January 1946 until July of 1947. He served in Nagasaki, Japan and helped clean up and reorganize Japan after WW II. While in Japan, he helped build a gym for the Japanese and did some boxing, which was a hobby of his since his days of Golden Gloves Boxing. Following his discharge, he was employed at Our Own Hardware and attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis and went on to work as an electrician for 30 years, in the Unions in the Minneapolis area.

On August 19, 1950, Lee married Carol Macy in Minneapolis.

Lee was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed playing golf, scuba diving, fishing, hunting, playing the guitar, was a Golden Gloves Boxer and he also took flying lessons and flew airplanes.

Preceding him in death were his parents and a daughter, Linda Orth.

Survivors include his wife, Carol of Battle Lake; a son, Michael (Judith) Kopperude of Battle Lake; grandchildren, Mark (Lora) Orth, Catherine (Terry) Deshaw, Amy Kopperude and Matthew (Amber) Kopperude; great-grandchildren, Greta Kopperude Bailey, Josephine Kopperude Bailey, Jackson Dante Kopperude, Taylor Deshaw, Angel Orth, Annie Orth and Steven Orth; a son-in-law, Ron Orth of St. Cloud; and a sister, Marilyn (Bud) Ramberg of rural Moose Lake, MN.

Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 2013, at the Minnesota Veterans Home Chapel in Fergus Falls
