Lawrence W. Mavis, 86, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, July 19, 2014 at the Broen Memorial Home, in Fergus Falls.
He was born on April 18, 1928 in Fergus Falls, the son of William and Fredrica (Auseth) Mavis. Lawrence grew up in the Fergus Falls area, where he spent his entire life.
On October 12, 1951, he married Leanna Walvatne at Zion Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Lawrence spent his working life farming and gardening. Many people benefited from his gift for gardening, as he sold his wonderful produce from his truck in the Pamida parking lot for many years. He had a dedicated work ethic, which he passed on to his children. He believed you did a job until it was done and you always helped other people. This was evident in all the hours he spent tilling gardens and plowing snow for other people.
He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. His strong faith in God was important to him and he made sure he passed that down to his family.
Lawrence enjoyed playing horseshoes and ping pong, bowling, snowmobiling, cutting fire wood and in his younger years riding motorcycle. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Steven; brothers, Walter and Wilmer Mavis and sisters, Ramona Hoff and Vivian Hoff.
Survivors include his wife, Leanna of Fergus Falls; children, Dale (Diana) Mavis of Mustang, OK, Terri (Gregg) Tangeman of Willmar, MN, Scott (Sue) Mavis of Fargo, Dean (Becky) Mavis of Fergus Falls; daughter-in-law, Pat Mavis of Fergus Falls; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
