Lawrence Larson

September 8, 1948 — June 11, 2024

Lawrence "Larry" Roger Larson, 75, of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday June 11, 2024 at Lake Region Healthcare, Fergus Falls MN.

Larry was born September 8, 1948, to Alvin and Lucile (Shafer) Larson in Oakes, ND. He attended Oakes Elementary School and graduated in 1966 from Oakes State High School. He furthered his education at North Dakota State University earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 1970.

Larry served as Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force by maintaining aerospace ground equipment in Wurzburg Germany during the Vietnam War era from 1970-1974.

After his time in the service, Larry was employed at Otter Tail Power Company in Fergus Falls as a Principal Engineer. During that time, he met his wife Pam (Drews), and they were married August 6, 1977. Larry often traveled for work to meet with other power companies and coordinated distribution of electrical power. He retired from Otter Tail Power in 2010 after 36 years of employment. Larry took classes in accounting to use in his second career as church treasurer at CrossRoads Church.

Larry was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), American Power Dispatchers Association (APDA), North Country Trail Association, American Legion, CrossRoads Church and the Fergus Falls Concert Association.

Larry enjoyed hiking and volunteered building and maintaining the local section of the North Central National Scenic Trail. He biked many miles on the Central Lakes Trail. Traveling with Pam was a cherished activity which included visiting all 50 states, journeying in the Holy Lands, crossing through the Panama Canal, kissing the Blarney Stone in Ireland, and stepping inside of a pyramid at Giza in Egypt. Music was very important to Larry as he sang in Barbershop Choruses and played tuba in the Carlisle Band and Community College Band. Being with his children and grandchildren were the most important times of his life, and he was often planning the next camping trip or family adventure.

Larry's strong faith and trust in Christ were guiding forces throughout his life. He was diligent in studying God's Word and kept a prayer journal for decades. He desired that everyone would know the saving power of committing their life to Christ.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Larson, and his mother, Lucile Larson.

Larry is survived by his wife Pamela (Pam) Larson of Fergus Falls; children, Michael Larson of Minneapolis and Kristie (Justin) Ertelt of Fargo ND; grandchildren, Kylie, Josiah and Lucy Ertelt of Fargo ND; siblings, Russ (Georgia) Larson of Kalispell MT; Ron (Barb) Larson of Alexandria and Shirley (Rick) Snyder of Fairmount ND.
