LaVerne Danielson

LaVerne Kathryn Simmer Danielson, 90, formerly of Rothsay, died Tuesday, June 17, 2008, at Lake Region Hospital, Fergus Falls. She was born May 13, 1918, in Wahpeton, ND, the daughter of Elizabeth (Wasmuth) and Leo Benedict Simmer. She grew up and began school in Rothsay and later attended Districts 56 and 57 of Akron Township, Wilkin County. She worked as a housekeeper in Wahpeton, ND and the Battle Lake community prior to her marriage. On September 29, 1939, she married Lawrence Danielson at the S.C. Danielson farm home in Akron Township, Wilkin County. They farmed in Akron Township until 1978 when they moved to Rothsay. She was a member of the Rothsay Baptist Church and it’s Mission Circle, the Akron Homemakers, as well as the Rothsay Senior Citizens. In December of 2006 she entered Mill Street Residence of Fergus Falls where she resided until her death. Survivors include her four sons, Dennis (Carolyn Hovland), Darwin (Marilyn Fust), Douglas (Shirley Nord), all of Rothsay and David (Wylene Barringer) of Cokato; 16 grandchildren, Lee (Kirsten Rudh) Danielson, Blaine (Molly Brothers) Danielson, Curt (Debbie Bradow) Danielson, Julie (Brian) Johnson, Jennifer (Carlos Criquet-Hazim) Danielson, John (Mandy Dumke) Danielson, Susan (JeRay) Johnson, Jody (Steve) Selseth, Lynn (Ned) Wilson, Cary (Karen Elavsky) Danielson, Karen (Justin) Phillips, Kristi Danielson, Kay (Matt) Ellerbusch, Karla, Kelly and Kelsey Danielson; 28 great-grandchildren, Olivia, Eben and Clay Danielson, Christopher, Stephanie, Cody and Shelby Danielson, Andrew and Sara Danielson, Abigail and Annika Johnson, Rebekah and Dylan Criquet-Danielson, Samuel, Matthew and Bethany Danielson, Lauren and Taylor Johnson, Nicholas, Jack, Joel and Landon Selseth, Reid, Ian and Avery Wilson, Kodiak Estes, and Allison and Andrea Phillips; one great-great-grandchild, Levi Danielson-Hoffman; Brothers, Roquell Simmer and Russell (Evelyn Kumm) Marquardt all of Rothsay; a sister-in-law, Elna Westfall of Fergus Falls and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, in 1984; her father, in 1919; her stepfather, Ernie Marquardt, in 1982; her mother, in 1983 and an infant sister.
