LaDell “Dell” Donald Neu, 82, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at his home.
He was born September 1, 1930 in Rockham, South Dakota, the son of Andrew and Christina (Lagge) Neu. He attended grade school by Star Lake.
At the age of 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and attended Boot Camp at the Great Lakes Naval Base near Chicago and became an air traffic controller. He transferred to Jacksonville, Florida, Atlantic City, New Jersey, Philadelphia, and Newfoundland, then returned to the Patuxent Naval Base in Maryland, later serving in Brunswick, Maine, and then the USS Forrestal Aircraft Carrier, serving with the Sixth Fleet in the Atlantic. He retired from the Navy in 1969.
On December 19, 1970, he married Shirley Luebke in Dent, Minnesota. Shirley passed away on August 5, 2006.
Following his discharge, Dell worked at the GTA Elevator in Fergus Falls for 13 years, and then was a driver at Metz Bakery for 17 years, until his retirement in November of 1997.
He was a member of Stavanger Lutheran Church, rural Fergus Falls.
Dell enjoyed motorcycles, RV Campers, and winters spent in Florida.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Shirley, and siblings Reinhold, Eugene, Elinor, and Lillia.
He is survived by a brother, Clinton Neu of Fergus Falls, numerous nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Romayne Harrington and her family.
There will be a memorial service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, August 14, 2013, at Stavanger Lutheran Church, rural Fergus Falls. Interment will be at Stavanger Lutheran Cemetery. Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
