L. Vernon “Vernie” Danielson, 91, of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at Pioneer Care in Fergus Falls. Lyle Vernon Danielson was born on February 8, 1920 at the family home near Fergus Falls in Friberg Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota, to Daniel Severin and Emma (Christiansen) Danielson. He attended school at District 66 and then went to Fergus Falls High School for his freshman year. He was confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. Vern graduated with the Pelican Rapids High School Class of 1939. Following high school he went to Wichita, Kansas where he spent a year training with Boeing Aircraft. In December of 1941, Vernon returned home to work with his brother Johnny on the home farm. He purchased his own farm in 1941 in rural Otter Tail County about five miles east of the Danielson home farm. He was a successful dairy and crop farmer. In the early years of dairy farming he began selling “Ice Cream Milk” to the dairy in Pelican Rapids. He later sold his Grade A milk to Cass Clay. On July 13, 1958 he married Eleanor Sanden of Pelican Rapids at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pelican Rapids. Eleanor died on May 20, 1962. He married Iona Saunders on October 24, 1971, and they were later divorced. He entered the Pioneer Retirement Community in March of 2009. He has been a member of the Federated Church in Fergus Falls and belonged to the Farmers Union for several years. He devoted his time to the farm and continued to live there after his retirement. Reading, keeping up on the local and world news, as well as visiting with family and friends occupied his free time. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Eleanor; twelve siblings: Selvin, Paul Marvin, Ernest, Daniel “Donald” Severin, Jr., Joseph, and John “Johnny” Danielson, and Myrtle Kenyon, as well as three brothers, Selvin, Mertil, and Leonard, and twin sisters, Ethel and Ella, that died in infancy. Survivors include his children: Dean (Kathy) Danielson of Fergus Falls, MN, Debra (Lynn) Kinneberg of McVille, ND, and Bonnie (Dale) Anderson of Minnetonka, MN; nine grandchildren: Amber Danielson, Kelsey Danielson, Jeremy Danielson, Anna Kinneberg, Nathan Kinneberg, Lydia Kinneberg, Mariah Kinneberg, Jill (James) Peterson, and Ben (Anna-Rew-Gottfied) Anderson; four grandchildren: Alexa and Adam Danielson, Alyssa Brown, and step-granddaughter, Isabella Peterson; a sister, Bessie Morrison of Rochelle, IL; and two sisters-in-law: Ardis (David) Nelson of East Peoria, IL, and Martha Danielson of Vancouver, WA. Visitation: 3-5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
