Korey Jon Salwei, 57, a resident of Dilworth (formerly of Fergus Falls), died Saturday, February 3, 2018.
He was born on July 4, 1960, in Cavalier, North Dakota, to Aloysius “Al” and Arliss (Stubson) Salwei. Korey graduated from Fergus Falls Senior High School in 1978.
On March 13, 1991, Korey married Kim Frees in Sisseton, SD. They were blessed with two children, Jared and Jordan.
Korey (also known to many as “the Beav”) had a passion for baking since the age of 16 when he went to work at the City Bakery in Fergus Falls. He went on to bake at various bakeries throughout his career, including the Home Bakery in both Wheaton, MN, and Sisseton, SD, Service Food Bakery in Fergus Falls, and Sodexo (MSUM Food Service Bakery) in Moorhead, MN.
He was a member of the Fergus Falls Hockey Association, as well as Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
Korey had a fondness for hockey. He was always the happiest in a hockey rink, either as a coach, player, or a fan of his kids. Korey also enjoyed fishing on any of the area lakes and rivers. He took great pride in the many accomplishments of Jared and Jordan.
Preceding him in death were his father, Aloysius “Al” Salwei in 2012; and in-laws, Pete and Kathy Frees.
Survivors include his children, Jared (Promise) Salwei of Nampa, ID, Jordan (Logan Bolstad) Salwei of West Fargo, ND; his mother, Arliss Salwei of Fergus Falls; brothers, Kelly (Jennifer) Salwei of Chaska, Kent (Michelle) Salwei of Fergus Falls; sisters, Kari (Doug) Olsen of Hoffman, Kristi (David) Kugler of Fergus Falls, Kathy Salwei of Brookings, SD; grandson, Justice Salwei of Nampa, ID, (as well as Baby Salwei due in May). Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday, February 12, 2018, at the Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls.
