Kenneth Sabbe

Kenneth G. Sabbe, 87, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, June 8, 2012 at the Broen Memorial Home. Ken was born on April 7, 1925 in Akron, Township of Wilkin County, the son of Oscar and Tillie (Carlsrud) Sabbe. He grew up and worked on the family farm and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1943. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1944.  During World War II he was stationed in France in the 325th Glider infantry and was honorably discharged in 1946. After his discharge from the military he went to NDSCS on the GI Bill.  On August 15, 1948, he married Lila Michealson at Bethlehem Lutheran church in Fergus Falls. The couple lived in Fergus Falls, where Ken was employed as an electrician.   Through the years he worked for Edling Electric, Mollerud Electric and then started his own business, Kenny’s Electric.  Ken was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls V.F.W. Post 612, IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) and the Eagles. He enjoyed woodworking, including furniture he made for his family, dancing at the V. F. W., polka being his favorite also watching his grandchildren in sports. He was known as “Mr. Fix-It” to family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Eli Sabbe; 3 sisters, Evelyn Drewlow, Ruby Buth Priebe and Erma Hugli. Survivors include his wife, Lila of Fergus Falls; four daughters, Nancy Sabbe of Madison, SD, Sally (Daniel) Rugroden of Hickson, ND, Jane (Tom) Shulstad of Pelican Rapids, Polly (Jeff) Withuski of Wahpeton; grandchildren, Paul (Kelly) Rugroden, Peter (Elise) Rugroden, Nicole (Ben) Nordvik, Amy (Alan) Hodenfield, Nathan and Eric Shulstad, Michael, John, Thomas and Andrew Withuski; great-grandchildren, Hannah, Noah, Simon, Jeremiah, Nathaniel Rugroden, Ezekiel Nordvik, James and Katelyn Hodenfield; brother, Ervin Sabbe of Breckenridge; sister, Vivian Steuhmer of Monterey Park, CA. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation:   5 to 7 p.m. Monday with a public prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church Service:   11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls Clergy:   Reverends Tom Peterson and Kate Bruns Interment:   Knollwood Memorial Gardens, Fergus Falls Military Participation: Fergus Falls V.
