Kenneth Elwin Link

October 30, 1925 — March 30, 2016

Kenneth Elwin Link, 90, a resident of Underwood, died Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at his home, under the care of Lakeland Hospice and his family.

Kenneth was born on October 30, 1925, at home on the family farm near Foxhome. He was the youngest child of William D. and H. Beryl (Turner) Link. He attended grade school in District 62, walking to school most of the time with his sisters. He went to high school in Campbell for two years, and then was needed at home to help on the farm, as his brother, Ernest, had gone into the service.

Kenneth married Verna W. Block on February 10, 1946, at Foxhome Lutheran Church in Foxhome. They continued living on the family farm, raising and milking brown Swiss Cattle and spotted Poland China Hogs. In 1967, he had an auction and moved to Breckenridge, where he worked at the Ford Garage. In April of 1968, he began working for Jennie-O and was employed there until 2000, when he became semi-retired. The couple moved to Underwood in 1986.

Kenneth was proud that all nine of his children were all raised on the farm where he was born. The family was active in 4H and also with rifle training. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed woodworking and fishing, both angling and ice fishing. Kenneth also loved spending time with his family.

Kenneth was a member of Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood, the Foxhome Fire Department, the Eagles Club in Fergus Falls, and the Foresters.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Beryl Link; two brothers, Ersal (Alice) Link and Ernest Link; two sisters, Louise (Henry) Knudson and Winnifred (Thomas) Hauer; his mother and father-in-law, William and Augusta Block; brothers-in-law, Arnold (Olean) Block and Elmer Block; sisters-in-law, Amanda (Albert) Jacobs, Irene (Ervin) Umlauf and Ida (Raymond) Umlauf; a grandson, William Duane Link; a great-grandson, Cody Link; a great-granddaughter, Hallie Bjelland; and a great-great-grandson, Kyler Link.

Kenneth is survived by his wife of seventy years, Verna Link of Underwood; his children, Lorene (Dennis) Hasbargen of Breckenridge, Kenneth “Butch” Jr. (Evie) Link of Underwood, William Daryl (Dianne) Link of Kandiyohi, Gary (Tereasa) Link of Underwood, Wayne (Patti) Link of Fergus Falls, Allen Link of Fergus Falls, Shirley (Mike) Funk of Cheyenne, WY, Suellen (Scott) Mavis of Fargo, ND, and Lisa (Ed) Jacob of Dilworth; twenty-six grandchildren; forty-seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
