Kenneth Klovstad, 82, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, February 24, 2012, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, surrounded by family. He was born on August 12, 1929 in Pelican Rapids to Carroll and Ruth (Bakken) Klovstad of Erhard, Minnesota. He spent his childhood years on the family farm in Maplewood. Ken married the love of his life, Marlys Kollar, 62 years ago at St. Leonard’s Catholic Church in Pelican Rapids. Their marriage was a true love story. From this union, five children were born: Marilyn, Daryl, Stuart, Sharon, and Paulette. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951, and served in the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge, he worked at the Fergus Dairy until his retirement due to his health. He taught us a lot about living with dignity in the face of debilitating pain from rheumatoid arthritis. Ken loved country music and playing his harmonica. His favorite song was “You Are My Sunshine”. He enjoyed farming, gardening, and fishing. He was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins, and of his grandchildren’s sports activities. Always a prankster, he loved a good joke. He enjoyed going to the lake. He could be counted on to entertain us with a story or a tall tale. He liked to sit on the porch and people watch, and they watched him too. Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother, Robert. Survivors include his wife, Marlys, of Fergus Falls; five children: Marilyn (Wayne) Johannson of Quincy, CA, Daryl (Kelly) Klovstad of Cincinnati, OH, Stuart Klovstad of Fergus Falls, Sharon (Mark) Sheils of Moorhead, MN, and Paulette “Pep” (Dan) Ross of Fergus Falls; 14 grandchildren: Kimberly (Jason) Cowan, Reno, NV, Matthew (Kristen) Johannson, Reno, NV, Amanda (Dan) Francis, Fargo, ND, Brian Noce, Fargo, ND, Brent Klovstad, San Clemente, CA, Marin Harbour, San Antonio, TX, Robin Harbour, New York City, NY, Kevin Harbour, Cincinnati, OH, Jordan and Joni Klovstad, Moorhead, MN, Drew Ross, Fargo, ND, Stacy Ross, Fargo, and Kelly and Danielle Ross, Fergus Falls; five great-grandchildren: Carter and Isabella Cowan, Anthony and Evan Johannson, and Grayson Francis; his twin brother, Kermit (Caroline) Klovstad of Erhard, and brothers, Percy (Claudia) Klovstad of Underwood, and Wayne (Connie) Klovstad of Erhard.
