Kay LaVonne Johnson, 74, a resident of Fergus Falls, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Lake Region Hospital surrounded by her family.
She was born April 17, 1939 to Arthur and Cora (Johnson) Grunwald in Owatonna, MN. At a young age, her family moved to Duluth and Mora, and Kay attended school in both cities.
On August 6, 1960, she was united in marriage to Aaron Johnson at the “Little Brown Church in the Vale” in Nashua, Iowa. The couple lived in Minnetonka, where Mr. Johnson owned Dressel and Johnson Excavating until 1973.
They moved to Henning and became the owners of Sunset Beach Resort on West Battle Lake for seven years until they retired to their home on West Battle Lake for 20 years and in 2000, the couple moved into Fergus Falls.
Kay enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed bowling, camping, knitting, traveling south in the winter to Rock Port, Texas. She had a special interest in bird watching, which especially included humming birds.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Aaron; grandson, Christopher Johnson; brother, Grant Battle; step daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Myklestad.
Kay is survived by four sons, Adrian (Pauline) of Lake George, Dean (Rosemary) of Rogers, Ray (Sheila) of Fergus Falls, Kevin (Debra) of Fergus Falls; two daughters, Diana Martyn of Sacramento, California, Deborah (Richard) Ratliff of Columbia Heights; one stepson, Roger Myklestad of Ottertail; 20 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; brother, Allen Grunwald of Vancouver, WA; companion, Edwin Brown. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
