Kay Hettler

F. Kathleen "Kay" Hettler, 91, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, January 2, 2008, at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She was born April 30, 1916, in Haydenville, Ohio, the daughter of John and Josephine (Walker) Norris. She attended country school in Laurel, Ohio, and graduated from Union Furnace High School in Union Furnace, Ohio. She attended Anderson College and Theological Seminary in Anderson, Indiana and graduated from Mayville State Teacher's College in Mayville, North Dakota. Kathleen taught school in Grand Forks, ND and at Adams Elementary School in Fergus Falls, MN, retiring in 1986. Kay has enjoyed music over the years, including several church choirs along with the Sons of Norway Choir of Fergus Falls. She also enjoyed traveling during the summer months. Preceding her in death were her parents, John and Josephine Norris; husbands, Ray L. Finlay and Joseph Hettler; three brothers, Frederick, Stanley and John Norris, Jr; and one sister, Mary Jo Sparks. Her family includes three daughters: DeLoma Finlay (Dwayne) Combs of Anderson, Indiana, Marsha Finlay of Bakersfield, California, and Pamela Finlay (David) Morris of Macomb, Michigan; five grandchildren: Daniel (Angela) Combs, Darla Couch, Derek (Kerri) Combs, David (Kym) Plivelich, and Douglas (Amanda) Plivelich; eleven great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Bill Sparks; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family requests memorial contributions be made to: Anderson University School of Theology, Office of Development, 1100 E. 5th Street, Anderson, IN 46012 or in care of the funeral home.
