Kathryn M. Pederson, 91, a resident of the Pelican Valley Nursing Home, formerly of Rothsay, died Tuesday, April 03, 2007 at the home. Marjorie Kathryn Junette was born March 11, 1916, in Trondjhem Township, Rothsay, Minnesota, the daughter of Torval and Clara (Skriden) Martinson. She was baptized and confirmed at Hamar Lutheran Church of Rothsay. Kathryn attended rural school District #73. On March 16, 1941, she married John T. Flatin on the family farm with the Hamar Lutheran pastor officiating. The couple then resided on their farm in Akron Township near Rothsay. They were the parents of two children, Joann and Robert. After raising her children, Kathryn worked at the Rothsay Truck Stop as a waitress from 1969 to 1983. On June 9, 1984, she married Randy K. Pederson in Hamar Lutheran Church. She was a lifelong member of the Hamar Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, was president of Dorcas, and was active in the ladies aid and circles. Kathryn was also a leader of the Wilkin County 4H, a member of the Sons of Norway, the Cobber Friends, and the Akron Homemakers for 35 years. She was a member of the Rothsay Senior Center and the Rothsay Bicentennial Committee. Kathryn enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting, dancing, playing piano and playing cards. Preceding her in death were her parents, Torval and Clara; her husbands, John, who died on February 6, 1976, and Randy, who died May 15, 2005; two brothers, William Martinson and James Martinson,; and two sisters-in-law: Orion and Evelyn Martinson. Survivors include her two children: JoAnn Rice of Mesa, Arizona and Robert John (Sharon) Flatin of Detroit Lakes; four grandchildren: Alisa (Casey) Mauldin and John Rice, Melissa (Steve) Doppler and Michael (Alicia) Flatin; and ten great grandchildren: Casey, Dusty, Misty, Robyn, Katelynn, Caity, Sarah, Tatum, Tanner, and Teeya;, along with six nieces and nephews, as well as cousins and a host of friends.
