Kathryn “Kathy” Faye Frees, 72, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Sanford Hospital in Bemidji.
She was born on May 23, 1941, in Fergus Falls, to Lloyd and Esther (Degner) Johnson. She grew up in Fergus Falls where she graduated high school in 1959. She took various business courses at the Fergus Falls Junior College.
On February 14, 1962 she married Peter Frees in Fergus Falls.
Over the years, Kathy worked at Johnson Repair Shop, Woolworth’s and the Super 8 Motel until her retirement. She also owned a bookstore, Books, etc. for several years in Fergus Falls.
Kathy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was Sunday School Superintendent for 10 years. She enjoyed bowling and was League Secretary for 16 years. She was also a Camp Fire Leader for 10 years. Kathy enjoyed reading, watching old movies and baking.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Peter; brother, Dwayne Johnson and her parents.
Survivors include her daughters, Kelly Shaw (Dennis Bridges) of Moorhead; Kim Salwei of Fergus Falls; grandson, Jared Salwei of Minot; granddaughter, Jordan Salwei, a student at NDSU, Fargo, ND.
A memorial service is planned for a later date.
