Kathryn Leone Edman, 91, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
She was born October 2, 1921, in Alexandria, Minnesota, the daughter of Leo M. and Gerda (Anderson) Squires. As a young girl the family moved to Fergus Falls where she graduated from high school.
On October 22, 1942 she married Edgar Raymond Edman in Minneapolis. Edgar served in the U.S. Army until his discharge in 1945, at which time the couple made their home in Fergus Falls. Kathryn worked as a bookkeeper for Johnson Furniture and Olson Electric. She then enrolled at the Fergus Falls Junior College in the Law Enforcement Program. Upon completion in 1961, she began a long career as the first female police officer for the City of Fergus Falls until her retirement in 1986.
Kathryn enjoyed league bowling, and roller skating. She loved the holidays, and spending time with family. She was a member of First Baptist Church (now Crossroads), where she participated in Bible studies. She was also a member of the Fraternal Order of the Police, the VFW and Eagles Auxiliaries, and volunteered at the Pioneer Care Facility.
Preceding her in death were her parents, an infant daughter, Carol Ann Edman, her husband Edgar in 1996, and aunts and uncle “Spike” Adolph and Ada Ness and Nora Goodnight.
Survivors include two sons, Ron (Noreen Benjegerdes) Edman of Spring Park MN, and Michael (Sherry) Edman of Bloomington MN; three grandchildren, Andrea, Aaron and Stephanie; two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Reina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Crossroads Church in Fergus Falls

Interment: Oak Grove Cemetery in Fergus Falls
