Kathleen “Kathy” L Krog, 77, of Fergus Falls, formerly of Underwood and Dalton, departed this earth from natural causes in December, 2023, in Fergus Falls.
Kathleen Laurie Hammond was born September 2, 1946, in Mayville, North Dakota to Harry (Alfred) and Helga Overby Hammond. The family lived in Portland, ND, the home of her maternal family, for the first four years of her life. Her family moved to Grand Forks, ND, in 1950, and then to Fergus Falls in 1951. Kathy attended Cleveland Elementary School and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1964.
Kathy married Harlan Lien on October 10, 1965, in Fergus Falls, to which two children were born, Toby and Sonja. During this time Kathy lived outside of Dalton. After divorcing in 1984, Kathy married Allen Krog in 1991 and during this time lived outside of Underwood. In 2015 Kathy moved into her childhood home in Fergus Falls which had been built by her father.
Kathy’s employment history included waitressing at the Normandy Café, and secretarial positions at Fergus Falls Credit Bureau, Mid-America Dairy (Dairy Farmers of America), PSI Healthcare, and Pioneer Care Center.
Kathy’s biggest passion was her cats. She lived almost all of her 77 years with cat companions in her homes. She was skilled in sewing, knitting, and crocheting and loved participating in area groups and clubs that got together regularly to work on their projects as well as working on her own handiwork projects at home. Kathy was a very good cook, hosting and dining with many friends and family over the years. Anyone that had eaten with Kathy knew her cooking would be tasty…and what a slow eater she was…a very very slow eater! Kathy was a fan of purple, movies, TV, and older country music. Kathy was proud of her Norwegian heritage on her maternal side and Scottish heritage on her paternal side, and she treasured her faith. Maybe most noteworthy, is that Kathy loved to laugh with the many friends she met throughout her lifetime, some from back to their childhood years, even though they had to wait for her to finish eating!
Kathy cherished her extended family in the Twin Cities and on the west coast and enjoyed keeping in contact with her numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, always wishing the family didn’t live so far away from each other. Kathy and her children were fortunate to have taken multiple pilgrimages together to both North Dakota and Washington where she reconnected with relatives and passed on stories of her years growing up, who are very grateful to have had those experiences together.
Kathy is survived by her children, Toby Lien and Sonja Lien, her beloved cat Willow, sister Madeline Simon, brother Neal Hammond, and nieces Maureen and Dan Hunt and their two children, Leina and Charlie, and Nicole and Justin Bottsford-Miller, aunt Ellen Overby, and 20 cousins, and a wide circle of friends. Kathy was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents, sister Luanna Sue Hammond, husband Allen Krog, and niece Andrea Miller, who passed away just two months prior to Kathy’s death, 16 aunts and uncles, and 8 cousins.
