Katherine Johanna Jimmerson

July 7, 1925 — November 22, 2015

Katherine Johanna Jimmerson, 90, a resident of Battle Lake, died Sunday, November 22, 2015, at her home.

She was born on July 7, 1925, to Phillip and Sophie Tanhoff in Sherburn, MN. During the Great Depression she went to work, at age fourteen, to help support her family. She initially worked as a nanny for two families and later held various jobs, prior to her marriage. On September 11, 1943, she was married to Wendell D. Jimmerson in Sacred Heart, MN. Together they had three children.

Katherine was an active member of the Lutheran Stars at First Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed sewing many fine dresses for school events and weddings. She was a great cook and enjoyed entertaining large groups for family events. She always enjoyed her gardens and flowers. She had a knack for fishing and usually caught the most fish. Her love of her Deer Lake cabin and family gatherings produced great Fourth of July celebrations.

Moving to Lakeview Senior Apartments in Battle Lake in 2007, she enjoyed her neighbors and the staff, considering them all family. She loved her home and looked forward to weekly bingo, trivia games and singing hymns.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Sophie Tanhoff; her husband, Wendell Jimmerson; and her sister, Minerva Jimmerson.

Katherine is survived by her children, Karen (Dennis) Sportel of Willmar, Lois (Roger) Helm of Maple Grove and Les (Carol) Jimmerson of Battle Lake; her grandchildren, Stephanie (Scott) Ahrens, Andrea (Robert) Gormley, Dan (Jackie) Boyer, Ryan (Jessie) Helm, Lindsay (Scott) Harrington, Kjersten (Andy) Frechette, Colette (Stephen) Fried and Adelle (Jeremy) Terry; her great-grandchildren, Addie Melvin, Gabriel, Thadius and Ellie Fried, Austyn, Olyvia and Carsyn Boyum, Sophya Frechette, Avree and Kolvy Klungland, Sam and Maddie Ahrens, Aida and Elliot Gormley, Easton and Bergen Boyer, Liam and Megan Helm and Jack and Grace Harrington; and her sisters, Erma Bjornson of Coon Rapids and Norma (Roger) Gearhart of Red Wing.
