Karen Krueger, 73, of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, February 1, 2024, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.
Karen Kay Sullivan was born September 18, 1950, to Leroy and Olive (Miller) Sullivan in Jamestown, ND. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1968.
On February 18, 1970, Karen married Russell "Lee" Krueger at the Rock of Gibraltar. They traveled Europe for six weeks following Lee's Navy discharge. In the summer of 1977, the couple moved to Fergus Falls. She was married to Lee, the love of her life, for 52 years. What a classic story-book romance, fit for the silver screen!
She was a florist, a small business owner (The Sub Machine), and a Foster Care provider. Karen had a long nursing career (LPN, RN, Nursing Supervisor, Chemical Dependency, Behavioral Health, and Nursing Instructor). She was also briefly a stand-up comedian.
Karen was a member of the PTA, Homemakers, a Campfire Leader, Days for Girls, AAUW, and La Leche League. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, solitaire, traveling abroad, sharing her floral skills, event planning, and as Lee often put it, she was a "World Class Cook".
Karen worked hard decorating her home for each season. Her furniture would often be in a new arrangement from the last time you were there, much to Lee's dismay. You never knew who you might find visiting in the kitchen as Karen and Lee's door was always open.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Russell "Lee" Krueger, and her parents, Olive and Leroy Sullivan.
Karen is survived by her children, Beau (Jennifer) Krueger of Fergus Falls, Courtnay (Chris) Harper of Fort Collins, CO, Brady (Rebecca) Krueger of Fergus Falls, and Chelsea (Jorge) Cruz of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Owen, Ari, and Rhys Krueger, Charlotte and CeCelia Harper, Van, Martie, and Forest Krueger, and Chloe, Cora, and Camila Cruz; siblings, Patti (Bob) Torres and Kathy (Craig) Smedstad, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Open House Remembrance: 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2024 at the American Legion Post 30, 2010 Pebble Lake Road Fergus Falls, MN 56537.
