June Henrietta Sonstebo, age 85, of Fergus Falls, formerly of Underwood, died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the PoineerCare in Fergus Falls. June was born on June 23, 1925, in Dalton, Minnesota, the daughter of Elmer and Gunda (Spitsberg) Synstelien. She grew up and attended school in Dalton, and then Fergus Falls High School, graduating with the class of 1943. June enjoyed bookkeeping and worked as a bookkeeper at the Dalton Creamery following high school. On June 24, 1945 she married Lloyd Sonstebo at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Dalton, where June was a lifelong member. She was active in the Ladies Aide for many years, serving as President and Treasurer, and was also a member of the Esther Circle. She served on the Tordenskjold Town Board, was a member of the Tordenskjold Homemakers Group, and a 4-H leader. June was a dedicated farm wife and wonderful homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, and flower gardening – she had a green thumb. June took pride in all she did and everything was done to perfection. She enjoyed bowling, having bowled on a couples league with Lloyd and also in a ladies league for many years. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends. Family members preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Lloyd on April 16, 2011, a great-granddaughter, Leasha Hoff, a niece, Londa Morrow, and a nephew, Robert Jensen. June is survived by three children: Steven (Maxine) Sonstebo of Fergus Falls, Janyne Hoff of Fergus Falls, and Gail (Dale) Janssen of Montevideo; eight grandchildren: Kevin Sonstebo, Daryl Sonstebo, Lynette (Mike) Bauer, Pamala (Bryan) Odegard, Troy (Glenda) Hoff, Michelle (Keith) Pearson, Brett (Elizabeth) Janssen, and Aaron Janssen; twelve great-grandchildren: Chase and Cole Sonstebo, Luke and Wyatt Bauer, Jessica (Devin) Hammer, Ariana Odegard, Jacob Hoff, Drew, Ty, and Nicolas Pearson, and Madelyn and Abigail Janssen; one great-great-granddaughter, Haylee Renae Hammer; two sisters: Shirley Schliep of Morris, and EaVon (Meinard) Morrow-Sand of Rosholt, SD; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Iris (John) Larson of Texas. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2011, at the funeral home with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
