Judith June (Seltz)Volz, 79, a resident of Atria Assisted Living in Carrollton, Texas, died early Thursday morning, April 10, 2008, at the Brookhaven Nursing Center, in Carrollton, Texas. She is the daughter of the late Rev. & Mrs. Alfred C. Seltz. Judy was born June 7, 1928 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Alfred Carl John and Frieda Emma Sophia (Uetzmann) Seltz. She grew up in Ogema, Frazee and Alexandria, Minnesota. Judy was baptized into the Lord's family on July 1, 1928, by her father at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ogema and later confirmed her faith in Jesus Christ at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Frazee. She graduated from high school in Alexandria and received her Elementary Teaching degree from Bethany Junior College in Mankato. On June 17, 1956 she married Reverend Paul Martin Volz at Zion Lutheran Church in Alexandria. After their wedding they attended a missionary training course in St. Louis, Missouri, soon after which they embarked on their life of service to the Lord in Africa. They lived in eastern Nigeria, West Africa from 1956 to 1963; Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, East Africa from 1963 to 1970; and Nairobi, Kenya, East Africa from 1970 to 1980. Upon returning to the United States they lived in St. Louis, MO, Aurora, IL, Ithaca, NY, Ponca City, OK, Waterloo, IA, and Moore, OK. In 2001 they retired in Carrollton, TX. Judy was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Dallas. In addition to being a Pastor/Missionary's wife, mother and grandmother, she also pursued a career in Elementary Education. She had taught first grade for seven years prior to marrying Paul. Upon returning to the United States she worked as a teacher's aide in St. Louis, Aurora and Ithaca. She also volunteered as an ESL teacher. She was an avid reader, had fun with word games and word searches, enjoyed bird and wildlife watching, was an excellent cook and seamstress and had a beautiful, soprano voice, singing solos and in choirs for many occasions. Preceding her in death were her parents, her brother, Roger and his wife Lisa. Survivors include her husband, Paul, and their four children, Ruth of Guangzhou, China; John and wife Jan of Tampa, FL and their children Hannah and Emma; Laura and husband Tom of Carrollton, TX and their children Sarah and Ryan; and Carl and wife Lisa of Washington, IL. Also surviving are her twin sister, Ruth Lia of Detroit Lakes, MN and her family; her brother Alfred (Al) Seltz, Jr. and wife Connie of Fergus Falls, MN and their family; and her brother John (Jack) Seltz and wife, Susan of Alexandria, MN and their family.
