Judith (Judy) L. Thompson, 82, resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, July 13, 2015, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
She was born on April 17, 1933 in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, to Otto A. and Hilda (Lindberg) Tjaden. She married Merlin Thompson in Underwood, MN on July 14th, 1951. She was a housewife for many years and was later employed at the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center, retiring from there after 18 years in 1998.
Judy was passionate about all types of crafting and knitting, making things like mittens and slippers. She loved finding “treasures” at thrift stores to repurpose. She often sold her items at the Annual Holiday Boutique in Mora, Minnesota.
She also loved to cook and bake. Her sugar cookies were legendary and her date bread and rum cake were “to die for.” Another passion of Judy’s was word games, and she would play Upwords with anyone who had the time and was willing to lose.
She loved to visit her daughter’s family in Israel, making five trips over the years. On one trip, she also visited Paris, France with Barb and Talia. She especially enjoyed going to the beach where she collected seashells and watched the sun set on the Mediterranean Sea.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Craig.
She is survived by her children; Alan (Karen) Thompson of Underwood, Minnesota, Bruce (Jackie) Thompson of Mora, Minnesota and Barbara (Oshri) Gabay of Kiryat Tivon, Israel; grandchildren, Jenna Thompson, Laura (Zak) Norton, Seth (Lindsay) Thompson and Talia and Tomer Gabay; and one great-grandchild Fox Norton; siblings, Irene (Vince) Hendrickson, Sonny (Sandy) Tjaden, Dale Tjaden and Joanne (Robert) Thompson; her special friend, Laurie Deckert of Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
