Joycelyn Kathleen Weiby, 88, a resident of Mesa, AZ, formerly of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014 in Mesa, under the care of hospice.
Joycelyn was born in Fergus Falls to Borghild and Selmer Paulson. She married Edwin Weiby in 1944 and had six children. Joycelyn worked at various jobs but considered her most important job to be that of housewife and mother. Her children were raised according to the Norwegian guidelines: “We are what we are. We have what we have. It is what it is. Could be worse. Uff da.”
She enjoyed cooking, entertaining friends, reading, and attending concerts. Joycelyn and Edwin retired to Mesa, AZ where they enjoyed entertaining winter visitor friends, earning her the title of Camp Director. In recent years, correspondence through letters and telephone calls to friends far and wide helped as she was the central contact to keep family members up to date and in touch with each other.
Joycelyn was preceded in death by her husband, and two sons, Larry and Allan.
She is survived by her children, Anne Neufeld of Colorado, Daniel Weiby of North Dakota, David Weiby of Arizona, and Kathleen Weiby of Arizona; brothers, Orrin Paulson and Sanford Paulson; seven grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
