Joyce E. Stock, 92, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016, at her home in Fergus Falls.
Joyce Eileen (Wilcott) Stock was born on October 4, 1923, the second of two children to Daniel and Nannie (Marquardt) Wilcott Kort in Fergus Falls, and was baptized and confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Elizabeth. She attended 1st grade at Lincoln School and 2-8th grade at District #37, the large red brick school house in Elizabeth. Joyce was a graduate of the Fergus Falls High School Class of 1942.
On November 30, 1942, she married the handsome and hardworking Addison Stock at Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. They made their living farming and raised their five children including “the Henry kids” on a farm in Western Township. They were members of the Western Presbyterian Church and later the Federated Church after moving “to town.”
After raising her children, Joyce returned to school and on November 19, 1965, was one of 14 women who graduated from the first ever nursing class of the Fergus Falls Licensed Practical Nursing Program. She worked at Lake Region Hospital from 1965-1987, mostly in Pediatrics and the Nursery.
Joyce enjoyed fishing, winning at cards, quilting, travel, occasional casino trips, growing beautiful flower gardens, “fancy” Christmas tea parties with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a one-on-one conversation and making people happy. She is well known for her doughnuts, potato salad, angel food cake, her generosity, and her beautiful smile.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Addison, in 1997; a son, Byron, in 1995; and her sister May (Satern) Rutheaford.
She is survived by her children: sons, Wayne (Pat) Stock, Mark (Judy) Stock, daughter-in-law, Gloria Stock (Byron) all of Fergus Falls; her daughters, Carol Stock of Seattle, WA, and Betty (Bill) Larson of Bemidji; nine grandchildren, Kevin Stock, Stacy Stock (Jamie), Kim (Kevin) Langbehn, Julie Nelson and husband (Zack Brown), Teresa (Asko) Rajaniemi, Allison (Joel) Myhre, Kelsey (Willie), Jessica and Ben Larson; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, LaVerne Mieska of Northfield and Patricia Stock of Mora; a cousin, Russell Marquardt of Rothsay; numerous nieces and nephews; her Tuesday Pinochle card group; the Peds coffee group; and ninety-two years of friends and neighbors.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016, at 1:00 PM at The Federated Church in Fergus Falls. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Officiants will be the Reverend Douglas Dent and the Reverend Dr. C. Edward Morgan.
Burial will be at St. Otto’s Catholic Cemetery in Fergus Falls.
