Joyce Rix, 69, died unexpectedly in her sleep on February 28, 2025. Joyce was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her caring spirit graced so many and her hands brought comfort in the form of hugs and delicious food.
Joyce was born September 5, 1955 to Elmer and Norma (Knutson) Anderson, and raised by Glenn and Leona (Anderson) Trosdahl after the death of her parents. Being a part of large families, she spent many hours playing with cousins, and family was very precious to her.
She was confirmed at Nidaros Lutheran Church and graduated from Battle Lake High School in 1974. She was involved in the Nidaros 4-H club, enjoyed playing many sports, and was passionate about music. She loved playing and singing in the Sunshine Girls with her close friends, Denise and Debbie. Joyce went to Wadena Technical School and received her degree in cosmetology. She opened her own beauty shop in Battle Lake.
On August 30,1980, Joyce was united in marriage to Dennis Rix. They bought a farm near Fergus Falls, where they raised cattle and grain. Joyce opened her own beauty shop in her home, Joyce's Hair Loft, and enjoyed doing hair and making everyone that came through her door feel welcome and loved.
She was an active church member at Augustana Lutheran Church in Elizabeth and found joy in participating in Ladies Aid and all church activities. She also loved gardening, canning, cooking, baking, and caring for all her friends and family. Visiting family and friends were always sent home with a care package of fresh garden vegetables or delicious treats. Joyce was famous for her dill pickles that graced every meal that she hosted for friends and family.
Joyce's pride and joy was her family. She is survived by her husband, Dennis Rix; children Kristy (Charles) Wicklund of Fergus Falls, Kalie (Dave) Sletten of Proctor; grandchildren Adeline, Lucas and Amelia Wicklund, Blake and Tate Sletten; mother-in-law Arlene Rix of Clitherall, siblings Larry (Karen) Trosdahl of Fergus Falls, Kenneth Trosdahl of Hermosa, SD, Duane (Carol) Trosdahl of Park Rapids, and numerous special nephews, nieces, and cousins.
