Joyce Nygaard

Joyce Marie Nygaard died February 14, 2025, at Broen Home, Fergus Falls, MN, under the care of Knute Nelson Hospice.

Joyce was the third daughter of Myron and Mildred (Johnson) Nygaard, born on February 24, 1948. She attended country schools and Fergus Falls Public School, receiving special education instruction.

When her mother died in 2015, Joyce and her sister Susan went to live with Janet Grulke, where she became part of the family, living there for ten years.

Joyce went on many vacations with her sister, sister-in-law Sylvia and Janet. She went to Mt. Rushmore, the Black Hills, Mackinaw Island, Wisconsin Dells, Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Tetons. She also traveled internationally, going to Winnipeg, Canada. She was never a true shopper but would always find small souvenirs from her trips.

Joyce had a rapport with all kinds of animals including the family dog, Lucy. She enjoyed watching the birds and squirrels in the front yard and buffalo, bears, fox, kangaroos and camels on her various vacations. If asked what she saw on her trip, she would reply with the name of an animal.

Preceding her in death were her parents, brother Brian, sister Susan and brother-in-law Ralph.

Joyce is survived by her sister Sherry Carter, two nephews Jason (Sara) Carter and their children Magdalen, Grant, Elsie and Kate, and Shawn Carter and his partner Nick Bellefeuille; sister-in-law Sylvia Nygaard; care giver Janet Grulke; much loved dog Lucy; dear friends Paul Grulke, Bob and Gail Johnson; and several cousins and many friends.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls with a visitation one-hour prior to the service at the church. There will be a light lunch following the service.
