Joseph “Joe” Thompson, 55, of rural Fergus Falls, died unexpectedly Friday, September 20, 2019, at his home.
Joe was born April 27, 1964, to David and Carole (Lehman) Thompson in San Mateo, CA. He attended Mound-West Tonka High School and graduated in 1983. He went on to attend Barber school and also Certified Nursing School.
Joe worked as a CNA for Pioneer Group Home in Fergus Falls, he spent most of his working years in the health care field working with the mentally and physically disabled. He served as a union representative.
He enjoyed gardening, baking, bird watching, taking care of his beloved dog Bootsie, traveling, and genealogy.
Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Carole (Lehman) Thompson; brother, Scott Halvorson; uncle, Loren Kern; aunt, Nancy Beckman, and grandparents, Morrie and Ester Thompson and Raymond and Gladys (Lehman) Skoy.
He is survived by his father David A. Thompson; his brother, David Craig (Tanya) Thompson; sister, Vicki Hastings; nieces, Kimberly Thompson and Elizabeth Olson, Jenny (Brian) Leider; nephew, Jaime Hastings; great-nephew, Michael; great-niece, Mallory; great-great nephew, Sebastian, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Olson Funeral Home Chapel in Fergus Falls. There will be a one-hour visitation prior to the service at the funeral home.
Clergy: Chaplain David Strom
A private family interment will be held at a later date.
