Jolaine Anderson

July 2, 1935 — May 17, 2023

Jolaine J. Anderson, 87, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.

Jolaine Joyce Johnson was born July 2, 1935, the fourth of six children of Erwin Sr. and Florence (Nelson) Johnson. She lived with her parents and siblings in Aastad Township until 1943, when her parents purchased a farm in Orwell Township. She attended school District #222 and graduated high school in Fergus Falls, MN. After high school Jolaine lived in Fergus Falls and on February 14, 1959 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church was married to Kenneth Sillerud. During their 19 years of marriage, Kenneth and Jolaine continued to live in Fergus Falls and raise their family. During this time, she enjoyed sewing clothes for her children, ceramic classes and singing with the Barbershop Bells. She was a lifelong member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school, a bluebird leader and active in PTA at McKinley Elementary School while her children attended.

In 1979 Jolaine remarried and moved to Alexandria, MN, where she joined her husband in managing their furniture store. During this time, she became an avid collector, her favorite being her extensive doll collection.

After returning to Fergus in the early 90’s she filled her home with the treasures she loved and it became the gathering place for her children and grandchildren to meet and where her delicious home cooked meals were served often. Jolaine always had a love of flowers and in her later years could often be found sitting amidst the pretty flowers she nurtured so well.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Erwin and Florence Johnson; sister and brother-in-law, Claire and Don Orpen; brother and sister-in-law, Stanley and Betty Johnson; brother, Erwin Johnson, and granddaughter, Allison Anderson.

Jolaine is survived by her brother, Paul (Darlene) Johnson and sister-in-law, Ellen Johnson all of Fergus Falls; sister, Shirley Trangsrud of Plano, TX; four daughters, Denise (Philip) Nelson, Debra (Dean) Anderson, Dawn (Wayne) Schuett all of Fergus Falls and Diane (DuWayne) Traut of Merrifield; two sons, Daniel Sillerud and David (Brandi) Sillerud all of Fergus Falls; ten grandchildren, Alisha (Brian) Helgeson, Ashley (Mauricio) Herrera, Justin Schuett, Kelsey (Cole) Helbling, Jesse (Stefany) Schuett, Danielle Schuett, Alicia (Jason) Mansur, and Rachelle Traut, Dillon (Rowan) Sillerud, Jordan (Joey Nelson) Sillerud, Leyla and Dexter; great-grandchildren, Edy, Abram, and Drew Helgeson, Sawyer Helbling, Emma Schuett, Ava and Miles Mansur, along with many nieces, nephews, and their families.
