John William Loomer, 85, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, October 25, 2015, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.
He was born on June 4, 1930, in Fergus Falls, to Harold and Genevieve (Westerberg) Loomer. He grew up in Orwell Township and attended school there.
On November 25, 1950, he was united in marriage to Phoebe Stock at The Federated Church in Fergus Falls. In 1951, the couple moved to a farm in Buse Township, where they raised their family. For many years, the couple spent their winter months in Las Vegas. He married Janine Kerr in February of 2003 in Las Vegas, NV.
John attended Morris Ag School and then returned to farm with his father, and later his father-in-law, Art Stock. In the mid-1970’s, John brought his sons into the farming business and recently his grandson, Eric, continues with the operation of the farm. When he retired, he moved into Fergus Falls, where he lived since.
John was a member of The Federated Church in Fergus Falls. He enjoyed dark house fishing with his brother, Dick, hunting and playing cards with his friends on the Corner.
Farming was his life, teaching his family honesty, integrity and how to work hard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Harold and Genevieve; his wife, Phoebe; and a brother, Richard Loomer.
John is survived by his two sons, Butch (Barb) Loomer and Michael (Michelle) Loomer, all of Fergus Falls; six grandchildren, Troy Loomer, Tony (Andrea) Loomer, Crystal (Tyson) Cavalier, Melissa Loomer, Eric Loomer and Nathan Delger; and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials are preferred to the Phoebe Loomer memorial account set up at Federated Church.
Visitation: 4:00-6:00 PM on Friday, October 30, 2015, at Olson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church
