John G. Goudy, 84, a resident of Fergus Falls, Minnesota, died Friday, August 1, 2008, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, MN. He was born December 23, 1923, in Outlook, Montana, to Ambrose and Threasa (Wilson) Goudy. He attended school in Whitetail and Flaxville, Montana. After he was discharged from the Navy, he spent three years attending an Ag College through the GI Bill. During World War II, from 1943-1946, John served in the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy, he received the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. He also received the Minnesota Safety Honor Deed Award Medal for bravery in averting a train parade accident in Underwood, MN. On August 4, 1946, he married MaeBelle Anderson at First Baptist Church in Williston, North Dakota. They farmed near Trenton, North Dakota, moving to Williston, ND because of the Garrison Dam Project, going from farming to construction. In 1964 they moved to Underwood, MN where they bought and operated a dairy farm. This farm on Bass Lake holds sweet and wonderful memories for many family get-togethers. John and MaeBelle moved in to Fergus Falls, MN in 1998. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Fergus Falls where he served as usher, Sunday School teacher, Deacon and Trustee. He also was a member of the Fergus Falls VFW Post, the Lions, PTA (president), American Legion, and on the Board of Tamarac Home all in Underwood and was the Director of Farm Home Administration in Williston, ND. Preceding him in death were his parents and three siblings. Survivors include his wife MaeBelle; children, John Keith (LaDoris) Goudy of Tucson, AZ, Donna (William) Ferrin of Nashua, NH, Carol (Steve) Brimhall of Otter Tail Lake and Connie (Robert) Duffett of Mitchell, SD; grandchildren, Michelle (Russell) Olmstead, Marcia (Eric) Dufern, Michael (Danielle) Ferrin, Stephanie (John) Grimont, Matthew (Carrie) Brimhall, Jessica (Chad) Daniels, Benjamin Brimhall, David Duffett and Allison Duffett; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Jordan, and RJ Olmstead, Carson Dufern, Ella, Andrew, Anna (Annie) and Ryan Ferrin, Flora and Henry Grimont, Jakob and Gabrielle Brimhall and Isaac and Olivia Daniels; siblings, Grace Williams, May Sledjeski, Inez (Glen) Tweet, Donald (Myrna) Goudy, Lucille Mott, Edithe Burgess, Ambrose (Bev) Goudy, and Georgia Stack. Memorials are preferred to First Baptist Church Building Fund or donor’s choice.
