John Dubbels

John Dubbels, 69, of Fergus Falls, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Sanford Hospice House in Fargo.

John was born on June 24, 1954, in Fergus Falls, the son of Warren and Esther (Bolland) Dubbels. He was baptized at home in rural Fergus Falls through Trinity Lutheran Church and confirmed at Faith Church in Fergus Falls. John worked on the family farm in rural Fergus Falls during high school. He graduated from Fergus Falls Senior High in 1972 and received a degree in diesel mechanics from Detroit Lakes Technical College in 1974. On September 20, 1975, John married Sheree Jensen at Zion Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. John worked as a diesel mechanic in Fergus Falls and continued to farm. He went back to school at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton and received a degree in diesel mechanics in 1993. He worked as a diesel mechanic for a few years, then went back to farming full time. He also worked part time at StoneL from 2006 through 2022.

John was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in 2014. He received a full stem cell transplant at Mayo Clinic in Rochester in 2014 and was in remission until September 2022. He underwent chemo for a year before entering hospice in November 2023.

John was an active member at Zion Lutheran Church and served on their church council. He enjoyed reading, listening to classical music, flower gardening, and working on various projects around the farm. John was a very knowledgeable person who loved to joke and make people laugh. He will be greatly missed by his children, family, and many friends from church, work and his neighborhood.

John is survived by his children, Derek Dubbels of Fargo, ND and Rochelle Dubbels of Fargo, ND; his sisters, Patryce (Robert) Thomas of Royalton, MN, Gretchen (Arlie) Radway of Howes, SD, Mary (Roger Schmidt) Hunt of Gering, NE, and Ruth (Andy) Johnson of Bruce, WI; his brother, Paul (Kursten) Dubbels of rural Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 46 years, Sheree Dubbels, in January 2022, whom he missed dearly.

Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2023 at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls and will resume one-hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Zion Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
