Joan Ryckman, 72, of rural Underwood, died Friday, February 11, 2011, at Essentia Healthcare, Fargo, ND She was born August 5, 1938, in Staten Island, NY, the daughter of John and Marion (Belvin) Perina. She attended school in Staten Island. Following her education she was employed in Manhatten. On June 16, 1956, Joan married Raymond Ryckman in Staten Island. They continued to live there until they moved to rural Underwood in 1968. She had been employed at the Otter Tail Nursing Home, Pamida and Walmart, retiring in 2005. Joan enjoyed sewing, quilting and geneology and volunteered her time at the Otter Tail County Historical Society as well as the Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband, Raymond, who died in 1993. Survivors include her children, Cheryl (David) Schmidt of Jamestown, ND, Dyrald Ryckman of Chicago, Jerol "Jerri" (Darrell) Bagley of Fergus Falls, Meryl Ruppert of Fergus Falls, Errol (Shirley) Ryckman of Chicago; 12 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Edith Swigert of Richville; three brothers, John (Beverly) Perina of Staten Island, NY, Robert Perina of Battle Lake, and Arthur (Noreen) Perina of Omaha, NE along with numerous nieces and nephews.
