Joan Hanson

Joan B. Hanson, 74 of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. Joan was born a twin on November 24, 1932, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Dorothy (Mittag) and O. Perry Mork. Joan grew up in Barnesville, graduating from high school in Barnesville in 1950. She attended St. Luke's Nursing School where she received training as a registered nurse. In addition, she did her clinical training at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. After her schooling Joan worked as a nurse in Cody, Wyoming, and in the late 1950's she moved to Fergus Falls, where she worked at Lake Region Hospital. On October 1, 1960, Joan married Gordon Hanson at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. The couple made their home on a farm near Doran, and she continued to work as a nurse in Fergus Falls until 1964, at which time she became a mom and stayed home to raise and support her family. Joan was past president of the Y's Folks, and was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She also volunteered regularly at the Food Shelf in Fergus Falls. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, loved walking with her friends, and adored spending time with her grandchildren. Joan loved to travel and had visited Norway, Hawaii, the Bahamas, Mexico, and had traveled all over the United States. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who will be dearly missed. Preceding her in death were her parents, and her beloved husband, Gordon in March, 2005. Survivors include her children, Sandra (Eric) McPherson of Fergus Falls; Scott (Claudia) Hanson of Lake Park; and Jack (Laurie) Hanson of Brandon, SD; five grandchildren, Chloe and Justin Hanson, Wesley Hanson, and Colin and Gavin McPherson; a twin brother, David (Marilyn) Mork of Dickinson, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials are preferred to the Community Food Shelf. Visitation: Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home, with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will resume prior to the service at the church.
