Jessie A. Heyen, 84, lifelong resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, in Eden Prairie, MN from complications of a stroke.
Jessie was born June 16, 1929, in Fergus Falls, MN, the first child of Aldon and Alvina (Cookman) Rix. She grew up and attended school in Fergus Falls, graduating from Fergus Falls High School.
On November 14, 1953, Jessie married Jerry Heyen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. They made their home and raised their three children, Jeffrey, John, and Jann, in Fergus Falls. Jessie devoted her life to family and church.
Jessie was a gifted quilter, seamstress, upholsterer, and knitter. She was always creating something with her hands. She volunteered tirelessly at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and shared her gifts with many volunteer organizations, including Pioneer Home. She will be missed by her PEO sisters.
Jessie is survived by her children, Jeffrey and Susan Heyen of Eden Prairie and their daughters, Taylor (Leigh) Tinmouth and Mallory; John and Sheila Heyen of White Bear Lake and their children, Benjamin, Jason, Kelsey, Christopher (Marcee), Lydia and Hadassah; and Jann Heyen and Michael Werb of Apple Valley and their family, Joseph, Shannon, Meg and Alexa (great-granddaughter); a brother, Marvin (Helen) Rix; sisters, Phyllis (Ken) Nelson, Geneva Rawson, Charlotte (Don) Nelson, Dora (Sheldon) Fossen, Bernice (Bob) Hanes; a sister-in-law, Catherine “Kitty” Heyen, and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband, Jerry, in 2011; father, Aldon, in 1992, and her mother, Alvina, in 1979; sister, Shirley Cawthray and brothers-in-law, Morrie Heyen and Richard Rawson in 2013.
The family would like to thank the Stroke Unit staff, at Hennepin County Medical Center, for the care they provided Jessie and her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church Foundation.
