Jerry Leon Johnson, 79, of Port Aransas, Texas, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, July 25, 2012, at his cabin on Otter Tail Lake. He was born April 8, 1933, in Stella, Nebraska to Elmer and June (Barker) Johnson. In 1957 he received an honorable discharge from the U. S. Air Force, receiving the National Defense and Good Conduct medals. He graduated from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln with a Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering. Jerry retired in 1988 from Northwestern Bell Telephone in Des Moines, Iowa, and moved to Otter Tail Lake, Minnesota. In 1995 he moved to Port Aransas, Texas as a resident, but continued to spend summers at Otter Tail Lake. Survivors include two daughters, Julie (Bob) Trent of Elkhorn, NE, and Susan (Greg) Curttright of Omaha, NE, five grandchildren: Joshua (Katie Jo) of Austin, TX, Jeremy (Ashley) of Omaha, NE, Bobby (Annie) of Portland, OR, Ben of Omaha, NE, and Allie of Omaha, NE, one great-granddaughter, Taylor of Austin, TX, and siblings: Belva Kirchoff and Darrel Johnson, both of Avoca, NE, and David Johnson of Des Moines, IA. In respect for his final wishes, no formal services will be held. The Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
