Jerome Nelson

Jerome Ralph Nelson, 71, of Fergus Falls, died Friday, July 2, 2010, at Lake Region Hospital, Fergus Falls. Jerry was born December 14, 1938, to Ralph & Myrtle (Hultman) Nelson in Fergus Falls. He was baptized & confirmed at Grace United Methodist Church.  He attended school in Fergus Falls, graduating in 1957.   After high school he joined the Army and was on active duty until 1960. On May 4, 1964, he married Joann Foyen (Kropp) and immediately had a family with three children. Their fourth child, Beth, was born in 1965. Jerry worked at the Daily Journal, Nelson Brother’s Printing and the Regional Treatment Center of Fergus Falls for 33 years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting for many years.  His favorite sport was bowling and he was usually on two different leagues every winter.  He and his wife, Joann, loved camping and for the past four summers were the campground hosts at Glendalough State Park.  He was the official coffee maker for the Y folks and would pitch in and help with clean up at the church, Senior Center, and YMCA, whenever help was needed. Jerry was a gentle, soft-spoken man who was always there for his family & friends.  He gave more to his family than he ever had for himself.  He had a unique sense of humor that kept everyone around him smiling and he was content with life and always at peace with the world around him. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Beth Wentworth; parents, Ralph & Myrtle Nelson; brother, Don; and sister, Patricia McClintick. Survivors include his wife, Joann; children, Laurel (John) Petersen of Fergus Falls, Jeff (Vicki) Nelson of Tonka Bay and Lynne Petterson of Fergus Falls; son-in-law, Brian Wentworth of Champlin; grandchildren, Joseph, Samuel (Satia) and Andrew Petersen, Cecilia Nelson (recently adopted), Jesse Ruen, and Eric and Tara Wentworth; great-granddaughter, Selah Petersen; brothers, Loren (Marvel) Nelson and David Nelson; sisters, Delores (Harry) Eckert and Karen (Chuck) Heikes and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: 5-7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church Service: 2 pm Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Grace United Methodist Church, Fergus Falls Clergy: Rev.
