Jeffrey Berg

September 8, 1960 — December 10, 2024

Jeffrey LaVern Berg, 64, of Dalton, MN, passed away suddenly in his shop on December 10, 2024.

Born on September 8, 1960, he was the eldest of LaVern and Jeanette Berg's three children, growing up just north of Dalton. He attended District #19 and Dalton Elementary School before graduating from Underwood High School in 1978, where he also helped on the family farm by milking cows, riding the tractor, and doing other farm chores. Jeffrey ski jumped during his younger years as well at the local ski hill not far from his home. In 1977, he began working for Ted Delzer at Delzer Construction as a backhoe operator, a role he excelled in for 35 years, later retiring from David Stock Farms in December 2023. Everyone around knew he was the best.

Jeffrey developed a passion for speed and racing early on and was known for his love of hot rods. He spent countless weekends racing in Weetown, Alexandria, and Fergus Falls. In later years, he enjoyed cheering for his favorite drivers at the I-94 EMR Speedway and spent Sundays watching NASCAR while enjoying sweets like tootsie rolls and unfrosted blueberry pop tarts.

Jeffrey met the love of his life, Carol, in 1989, and they married in Las Vegas on March 17, 1990. They built their family on their piece of paradise, known as Berg Valley Racing, which became a source of pride for Jeffrey. In 1989, Jeffrey was able to turn his vision into reality by building beloved racetrack. He hosted annual race day parties and welcomed local racers to his track for testing and fun. With a meticulously maintained yard and shop, the cleanest in the county where he tinkered a lot was kept to perfection. In true Jeffrey fashion, he enjoyed his time outdoors admiring the kingdom and the empire he built. Above all, he loved his family and was happiest when they were all together, safe, and warm. A simple man, he appreciated life's little moments with full satisfaction, always with a smile on his face and his signature catchphrases, "Yep, Mmhmm, Awesome."

Jeffrey is preceded in death by his parents LaVern & Jeanette Berg and his grandparents Edward and Emma Berg; Jens and Alfreda Johansen.

Jeffrey is survived by his wife, Carol Berg; children, Sonia Dwiggins Von Rude (Jason), Jessica Aronica (Salvatore), Meko Berg-Nelson (Casey), Clinton Rude, and Nicole Berg; grandchildren, Nathaniel Jeffrey Berg, Tony Carter, Logan Jean Nelson, Parker Taylor, Winston Taylor, Corinne Aleman, Salvatore Aronica, Joselyn Rude, Colby Rude, and Roran Aronica; siblings, Brenda Johnson (Terry) and Jean Tinjum (Mike); mother-in-law, Sonia Smith; nieces and nephews; his many good friends; and his beloved cat Morris Mufasa.
