Jeanine Mae Stahlberg, 83, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the PioneerCare Cottages.
Jeanine was born on July 16, 1932 in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Earl L. and Elizabeth (Andrews) Miller. She spent most of her childhood in North East Minneapolis where she graduated from Edison High School. After high school she went on to attend the University of Minnesota where she received a major in Spanish. In 1954 Jeanine married Edwin D. Stahlberg. She was a housewife and mother before teaching Spanish in Pelican Rapids and other area schools for many years.
During their years in Fergus Falls she served on the local Planning Commission and was involved in organizing of what would become the Prairie Wetlands, in which she became a Life Member. Jeanine had a strong sense of civic duty and supported a wide range of organizations including the local Concert Association and the AAUW. She also managed the GNC in town for a time.
In her free time she enjoyed a wide variety of the arts. She sang in the Barbershop Choir and was in a Barbershop Quartet. Through the years she was an avid bird watcher and could identify many species just by their songs. She enjoyed nature all around her and was fond of tulips, iris and lilacs. As well, she loved to sew, read and spend time with Ed. A big part of her life was dressing with bright vibrant colors, that became an important way to express herself. Chocolate malts were a real favorite of hers.
Preceding her in death were her parents and a son David.
Jeanine is survived by her three children; E. Donald (Lisa) Stahlberg of Morton, IL, Joel Stahlberg of Arlington, WA and Susan (David) Arnold of East Stroudsburg, PA as well as six grandchildren.
