Jeanette Althoff

Jeanette Elaine Althoff, 87, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. She was born June 29, 1922, in Fergus Falls, the daughter of Carl Milton and Julia (Carlson) Erickson. She grew up on a farm near Fergus Falls, and graduated from Washington High School in Fergus Falls in 1940. She attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, where she acquired her secretarial skills to work in numerous offices, including the Fergus Falls Woolen Mills, the law firm of Rosengren, Rufer and Blatti, and the local Parole and Probation office of the Minnesota Department of Corrections where she worked for 20 years.  In September of 1962 Jeanette married Herman Althoff. The couple lived most of their married lifetime in Orwell Township. Herman passed away in 1999. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Fergus Falls, teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir for 24 years, and serving as church clerk for several terms. Jeanette enjoyed crocheting, making rugs, doing crossword and fill-in puzzles, old time music, reading newspapers and magazines, religious activities, walking outdoors, watching the news on TV, playing scrabble, and visiting with family and friends. She enjoyed travels to Texas, California, and the East Coast, and especially going out to the lake. As a child she enjoyed going fishing with her dad. Preceding her in death were her husband, her brother, Gordon Erickson, and a brother-in-law, Marvin Engel. Survivors include two sisters, Grace Keena and Helen Engel, both of Fergus Falls, and nieces and nephews.
