Jean Stromme Walker passed away Friday, May 29, at Sanford Health, Fargo, following a brief illness. She was 71.
Jean was born Nov. 11, 1943, in Rugby, ND, the daughter of Clarence and Agnes (Thorp) Stromme. Jean grew up on the family farm near Willow City, ND, and graduated from Willow City High School in 1961. She attended Minot State University in Minot, ND, for two years.
She married William “Bill” Walker on June 3, 1966, in Minot. Shortly after they moved to the Wahpeton, ND, area. She began working at St. Francis Home in 1986. The family moved to Ottertail, MN in 1994.
Jean worked for 15 years at Perham Hospital and Home where she was a CNA. She retired in October 2009.
Jean was a member at the Northwoods Assembly of God, Perham. She taught Sunday school in previous years at Wahpeton Church of God and Wahpeton Assembly of God.
Jean loved caring for the elderly residents at the nursing homes she worked at, gospel music and singing in church, baking for the people she loved, caring for her family and spending time with her grandchildren. Her lemon meringue and apple pies, cookies and bars were famous amongst those who loved her and at church and lake association functions. Jean and Bill hosted fish fries that were famous among their friends and church family.
She is survived by her husband, Bill, Ottertail; children Timothy Walker, Hudson, WI; Rochelle (and Barry) Boesen, Fargo, ND; Janelle Walker, Elgin, Ill.; and Ben (and Michelle) Walker, Perham; Grandsons Zachary Nordick, Austin Boesen, Elliott Walker and granddaughter Eliana Walker; step-grandsons Jarrod Boesen and Travis Boesen; sister Eunice Castle, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marlys Thingvold, brother David Stromme, and a stillborn son.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday, June 1, 2015, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Northwoods Assembly of God Church, 945 W. Main St,Perham
