Janice Tellinghuisen

July 23, 1936 — April 27, 2020

Janice (Jan) Mary (Johnson) Tellinghuisen, age 83, of Battle Lake passed away unexpectedly on Monday, April 27th 2020 at her home.

Janice Johnson was born on July 23, 1936 to Douglas and Mary Johnson in Slayton Minnesota. Jan attended school in Slayton and graduated with the class of 1954. Following graduation, she attended Minnesota School of Business. Jan and Burdell (Del) Tellinghuisen were united in marriage on July 7, 1956 in Hadley, Minnesota. To this union they were blessed with four children, LaNae, Larry, Lee and Loren. Jan was a busy stay at home mom trying to keep up with their four kids all under the age of four, before she started working at the Worthington Country Club. In 1977 they moved to their dream home on Stalker Lake.

Janice had the kindest heart. She lived in a selfless way and loved everyone no matter what. You could always find Jan playing cards, doing a crossword puzzle, or watching a Minnesota Twins or Vikings game while enjoying a strawberry toaster strudel and a cup of coffee. She loved doing these things while cozied up to a WARM wood burning stove which she was always throwing another log onto. Jan also enjoyed playing bingo and going bowling. She was an active member of the Tordenskjod Free Lutheran Church in Underwood.

Janice is survived by her children, LaNae Tellinghuisen Myhre and friend LeRoy Lange of Riverton, Wyoming, Larry (Sandy) Tellinghuisen of Sac City, Iowa, and Loren Tellinghuisen of Battle Lake; nine grandchildren, Jessica Myhre, Jason Myhre, Tonya (Justin) Chandler, Candi (Fred) Seel, Ross (Angela) Tellinghuisen, Brooke (Brendon) Foss, Reed Tellinghuisen, Linda Tellinghuisen, Justin (Kylie) Tellinghuisen; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry Johnson of Amery, Wisconsin and Jim (Diane) Johnson of Slayton, Minnesota, and two sisters, Joan (Jim) Fleming of Fitchburg, Wisconsin and Jill (Brad) Engebretson of Marshall, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burdell; son, Lee; grandson, Lucas Myhre; her parents, Doug and Mary Johnson; father and mother-in-law, Carl and Lillian Tellinghuisen, and sister-in-law, Lois Johnson.
