Janet Alice Petterson, 73, a resident of Fergus Falls, passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls surrounded by her family after a brief illness.
She was born May 14, 1939 at home in Dalton, Minnesota, the daughter of Webster and Alice (Dahlager) Torgerson. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Dalton. She attended school at District 9, rural Dalton, and Fergus Falls High School, graduating in 1957.
On May 23, 1959, she married her high school sweetheart, Vic Petterson, at Our Saviors Church in Dalton. They made their home on the farm in Fergus Falls Township where they farmed and raised their family. Janet also worked as a travel agent for many years, retiring in 2001.
She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church in Elizabeth where she served as church organist for many years. She was active in her community and church. She sang since she was a child for numerous events and occasions.
Janet loved birds, knowing all types, with hummingbirds being her favorite, and enjoyed flower gardening and country living. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Janet always had her door open to friends, and had time for everyone!
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Vic, on December 7, 2012, a son, David, her twin sister, Janice, and brothers Arvid and Wesley.
Survivors include her son, Jon (Michele) Petterson of Fergus Falls; her daughter, Kim (Jeff) Lotzer of Fargo, daughter-in-law, Lanette Petterson of Fergus Falls; four grandchildren: Autum, Lindsey, CJ, and Jacob; a sister, Jewel Kastelle of Fergus Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 4-6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with a 5 p.m. prayer service and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls
Clergy: Reverends Tom Peterson and Kate Bruns
Interment: Augustana Lutheran Cemetery, Elizabeth MN
